Experience the uncompromising inspiration of Peter Paul Rubens in your home. I am thrilled to offer this Malbeste engraving of Rubens’ famous painting, La Chasse au Lion. The original painting is part of the National Gallery of London's permanent collection, room 18.

George Malbeste created the work using the “l’eau forte” method of etching. Malbeste was a well-known artist in the premier engraving house in France at the time under Jaques Philippe Le Bas (1707 – 1783). In 1792, King Louis XVI appointed Le Bas as Court Engraver to the Cabinet des Médailles, which is considered the oldest museum in Paris housing the objects and collections of the kings of France.

The Chasse au Lion is part of a collection originally commissioned in 1615, by Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria to decorate Schleißheim Palace, the summer residence of the Wittelsbach princes. The collection includes Rubens' sweeping masterpieces of the La Chasse a l'Hippopotame and two others depicting the hunts of Wolves and Boars.

Also offered on The Trouver Shop is the equally rare etching of after Rubens' famous painting La Chasse a l'Hippopotame by Pietro Martini 1772.

Both pieces were recently uncovered at a Parisian auction house located in Versailles France. A 10% discount is offered for purchasing the pair – La Chasse a l’Hippopotame and La Chasse au Lion.
