Enjoy this lovely hand painted antique lithograph by the British artist and naturalist, Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917). The woodcut print lithograph was published in the "Cabinet Edition" of A History of British Birds Vol VIII by Groombridge and Sons, London. This 8-volume set has slightly smaller plate sizes than the first edition c. 1863-1867. Several plates of other lithographs from this edition reside in the New York Met.
This work is part of a print suite realized for F. O. Morris after drawings by Richard Alington, to create an inventory of British Birds. These prints were all hand colored by a team of women colorists.
